Here’s a run-down on a few of the biggies.
Hazelnuts pack a powerful nutritional punch. All too often limited to European confectionary + sugary treats, Hazelnuts are full of vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients. Think, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium + selenium. Fibre, Vitamin E, K + lots of Bs, folate, thiamine + good heart-healthy fats.
Hazelnuts provide a heap of your daily recommended intake of manganese and copper. Copper is essential for iron absorption + manganese for bone formation.
Have you ever heard of flavonoids? Well hazelnuts contain these too. Flavonoids support brain health, improve circulation and reduce symptoms associated with allergies.
So that’s your heart, bones + blood sorted. Sweet.
We grow our own nuts. But we also support the local hazelnut growers co-operative when we need to top up our store.
Coconut Oil + Flesh
Coconut Oil has been getting a lot of press lately – with super models + sport stars glugging the stuff back by the gallon. But the oil was fashionable way back. The meat, juice, milk and oil produced from the coconut has fed and nourished folk around the world for thousands of years, not to mention its long + successful use in medicine. It cleanses, heals, detoxifies + soothes.
We source our organic, extra virgin product from the warm shores of Sri Lanka + the Phillipines, where the people describe the coconut as coming from the “tree of life”.
Honey on soft white bread – what kid doesn’t love that?! Well, blended with hazelnuts – it can be even better. Aristotle + Hippocrates sung its praises back in BC/AD; Honey is nature’s own ‘energy booster’ – anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant + anti-septic – it’s been part of our nutritional and medicinal arsenal since ancient times.
We source our honey from right here in NZ, where there are lots of flowers + happy bees.
To get cocoa powder from the cacao bean, the nibs are first ground into a strong paste. The fat is removed, and the remaining solids are ground up again into a fine dust: cocoa powder. Using cocoa in this form cuts out the saturated fat you find in chocolate. It’s also claimed to contain some vitamins + minerals. So that’s maximum taste + minimal guilt. Rich, raw – perfect really.
Our cocoa powder is sourced from the Dominican Republic – Fair Trade and Organic, naturally.
First cultivated in the Mazatlan Valley on the Gulf of Mexico – later adored by the Aztecs, Spanish explorers and French colonials. Vanilla is a scent + flavour associated with both exotic luxury + warm, homely comforts. We think it blends perfectly with hazelnuts. We’re sure you’ll agree.
We source our Fair Trade + Organic Vanilla pods from the Kingdom of Tonga.
All our specialty nut butters are free from additives, preservatives, gluten + dairy. Nice to know.
